2026 Renovation
The Champney River facility underwent a $2.5 million renovation completed in 2026. The project replaced the previous single double-lane ramp with two new double-lane ramps, added improved service docks and created a new ADA-accessible fishing pier. The parking area was also reconfigured and expanded to approximately 100,000 square feet. Coastal GADNR
The new dock system includes a near-shore fishing pier and a longer dock extending into the river, providing additional space for launching, loading and fishing. Coastal GADNR
Water Access
The ramp provides direct access to the Champney River, which is part of the Altamaha River delta and connects with the surrounding coastal waterways.
Georgia DNR's project documents describe the location as an important access point for recreational boaters, anglers, commercial anglers, crabbers and seasonal waterfowl hunters. Coastal GADNR
As with other Georgia coastal ramps, boaters should be aware that tidal erosion can create drop-offs at the end of ramps, particularly around low tide. Coastal GADNR
